About ANDO Engineering
ANDO Engineering Ltd is an independent structural engineering practice established since 2018 and run by Andrew Dobson MEng CEng MICE, a Chartered Civil Engineer specialising in building structures.

The practice provides structural design, inspection and advisory services for residential and small-scale building projects, with particular experience in alterations to existing buildings.
Andrew Dobson MEng CEng MICE
Andrew is a Chartered Civil Engineer with broad experience in the design and assessment of residential and building structures, including extensions, loft conversions, structural alterations, refurbishment, structural inspections and investigations of existing buildings.

Andrew began his career in heavy civil engineering, working for a major contractor in London on large tunnelling projects before specialising in temporary works design. This developed a strong understanding of construction methodology, buildability and how structural designs are implemented on site — principles that continue to inform the approach taken at ANDO Engineering.

After becoming Chartered with the Institution of Civil Engineers in 2018, Andrew established ANDO Engineering in South East London. The practice is now based near Wetherby and continues to undertake a substantial workload across South East London.
​
As a sole practitioner, Andrew deals directly with each project from initial enquiry and site inspection through to design, documentation and construction-stage support.
What You Can Expect
Stage 01
Initial Review, Site Visit & Consultation
Your project requirements, existing drawings and available information are reviewed before an initial site visit is undertaken.

The visit is used to inspect the existing structure, confirm the structural arrangement as far as reasonably practicable, take relevant measurements and discuss the proposed works and any apparent constraints.
Stage 02
Preliminary Structural Advice
Where appropriate, preliminary advice is provided on structural feasibility, likely design constraints and possible structural options.

Particular consideration is given to whether the proposed arrangement can be refined to simplify the structure, improve buildability or avoid unnecessary construction complexity.
​
Where an architect or other consultant is involved, the structural approach can be coordinated with the wider design.
Stage 03
Structural Design & Documentation
The structural design is developed and documented with consideration of the architectural requirements, existing structure and proposed method of construction.

Depending on the project, the design package may include:

Bearing, connection and support requirements

Timber floor and roof details

Documents are issued electronically in PDF format.
Stage 04
Construction-Stage Support
Support does not necessarily end when the calculations and drawings are issued.
​
Reasonable queries from the client, architect, builder or Building Control can be dealt with as the work progresses, and unexpected site conditions can be reviewed where required.
​
Where significant redesign or additional work falls outside the original agreed scope, any additional fee will be discussed before that work is undertaken.
